The Associating Principle is a law of language that is connected to and utilizes the likes of symbol and high-context language to create a distinct phenomenon. This phenomenon was first tested and named in a coffee shop on Main Street.
The Associating Principle states that when two or more things are associated with each other, they become more meaningful to each other. This is because the association creates a connection between the two things, which makes them easier to remember and understand.
Symbols are a powerful way to create associations. A symbol is something that represents something else, and it can be used to create a connection between the two things. For example, the Bald Eagle is a symbol of the United States, and it can be used to create a connection between the United States and freedom.
High-context language is another way to create associations. High-context language is language that is full of meaning, and it can be used to create a connection between the speaker and the listener. For example, were someone to sneeze, they might be met with instinctual blessings, owing to the religiosity of most Americans and Europeans.
The Associating Principle is a powerful tool that can be used to create meaning and understanding. It can be used in advertising, marketing, and even in everyday conversation. By understanding the Associating Principle, we can use it to our advantage to communicate more effectively.
Synchronicity also plays a large role in how The Associating Principle works. For a crash course on the phenomenon of synchronicity, just do a search for it on YouTube and You will find many a Jungian discussing it and how meaningful it is to the explorer of mental faculties. Suffice it to say, however, that there is a happy medium of synchronistic events that approaches neither the all or none percentages of a person's daily life, and they encompass far more than just linguistics.
Words are the realm of The Coffee-Shop Effect, though; so named because, while I barista’d in a very spiritual shop, I tested secretly this principle and found that most people are unaware of its existence at a meaningful scale but instead recognize it in jokes and euphemisms.
The phenomenon, in essence, is the Universal Mind speaking, and the person whose voice is utilized is the conduit that the Great Spirit is giving a message through. Practiced individuals may open their voice to this phenomenon, but only when God has a message for a person will El speak with another’s words.
This is the most important lesson I learned about The Associating Principle. One mustn’t force it to occur, lest the message become a fragmented and uninterpretable mess. All must come with the flow of life as it occurs functionally. Let messages come to you or through you naturally by speaking or hearing others speaking from the heart.
said, “Two more shakes.” then put it back down on the table with a clack.
Jogged from the thought, Rebecca looked at John with a grin and the two sat together silently, taking in the sights and sounds.
As the couple sipped the first creamy layer slowly from their mugs, a regular customer entered, ringing the front door bell and waving to the barista at the machine, who waved back and announced, “ I’ll be right there!”
“Hey, John!” He said to the regular, “How’s Becca?” The couple, hearing their names in such an unfamiliar way, perked up.
“You never call Me Becca, do You, John?”
“No, I guess not. I’m not one to use nicknames.”
“Really? Would You call a Jonathan ‘John’?”
“Decisively, no, since my name isn’t Jonathan.”
Rebecca concluded the questioning with a, “Hm.” and returned to listening to the others.
John sipped his tea and did the same. He needed a moment to cut through the bustling air of the shop and pinpoint the friends at the counter, but he recognized...
the slightly gruff voice of the other John from another time they’d come here. The older man continued talking about ‘Becca’ and what he said surprised and intrigued the younger John.
“Remember me telling you ‘bout the way Becca likes to piss in our garden?” he asked, getting to something. “That must’ve been months ago, and now our crop’s been harvested and the plants are bare.”
“Sure,” said the barista, “you mentioned that you don’t like to have ‘er on her leash when you’re at home.”
The couple looked at each other for a moment and mouthed, “Dog!” together and Rebecca giggled. They continued to listen as Old John went on.
“Turns out, she’s been fertilizin’ them potatoes ‘n carrots, Mikey! I looked up why the crops at the center of the garden could be bigger and one blogger said his dog was doin’ the same thing; peein’ in the center! Ain’t that sumthin’?” A laugh punctuated his proclamation, and Young John turned to his partner in disbelief. Rebecca had JUST asked about that exact scenario! Regarding human pee, but still, “What a coincidence!” he exclaimed to her.
“Happens all the time, if you know how to listen.” She stated confidently, gazing intently into his eyes, sipping her London Fog. “Rather, if you know TO listen.”
“Right,” remembered John, “You called it synching up, right?” She’d brought it up a few times since moving in together.
“Good man,” she teased, “you were paying attention.”
Now, here is an example of this phenomenon at work: The setting is, naturally, a table in the corner of a cozy coffee-shop
The sun seemed to hover at a 45 degree angle which shined its light off the glass table that John brought his and Rebecca’s London Fogs to, right into his eyes for the second time as he left the barista counter. The windows were decorated for Christmas, however, so what bright rays made it to John’s direct gaze were broken up by the shadows of tinsel and the silhouette of Santa’s sleigh.
He paused for a moment to gather himself after the shock of witnessing the blinding power of the big ol’ plasma orb when Rebecca tapped his shoulder from behind, leaving a slightly wet handprint on his shirt that he could just barely feel as she asked, “You ok? He get you again?”
“Yeah,”John replied, adding,“ I sure hope that’s sink water you just moistened me with and not…”
"Oh, don’t you just hate it when you pee on yourself? Hahaha" She laughed, taking the mug of tea and...
twirling around in her usual playful manner as she walked to the glass table they had chosen.
“Very funny, but you’ve told me that one at home before a couple times already.” John poked.
She gave in to the jab, saying, “Yeah, I loved your first reaction so much I can’t help myself. You very nearly believed me! Hey, did I ever tell you that that was the time I first tested your sense of humor?” She fingered the rim of the mug, blowing a breath on the steam.
John poked a pinky in the drink and popped it into his mouth. Too hot, but only another minute or so before it was palatable. “And what if I had been grossed out by the joke?”
She pushed away the mug and derided the question. “It doesn’t matter; you aren’t like that, John. Though you did seem grossed out by the idea that I might actually wipe my pee on your face. I’m just glad you checked it with your nose and not your tongue! HAHAHA!”
There she goes, laughing at what she said, he thought. She did that a lot, and he loved that
about her. John usually got a lot of enjoyment from her amusing ramblings, too. It turns out they made a pretty great match.
“Hey, what would the water taste like if we lived on a spaceship; seeing as we would have to recycle our pee into fresh drinking water?” she pivoted. “I dunno, really. It depends on the purification process, I suppose. Funny you ask that; I was just thinking about watering the crops we might have on board.”
“Yeah? Hmmm…” she thought for a moment and inhaled some steam, “It could be possible to filter the urine through a soil substrate, given the urea and nitrogen were minimized or neutralized… or utilized. And I guess the plants that grow on that soil would have to be specialized for the task.”
He loved Rebecca’s brain. It’s one of the things that she wears on her like a toolbelt, to be utilized whenever the moment arises as it often does due to the situations the two place themselves in. John brought his tea to his lips to gauge the radiant temperature and..
