Brain flower facts... (I have no words but why nature WHY)
Hello everyone... If can remember from what I said on the last post that I wished/hoped that there is no flower that looks like a brain right. Well my sister told me about there is and I didn't believe her until I asked my boss and checked a library and well there is... Let's get started I guess -------------------------------------------------- The cockscomb has many names like Celosia, Brain Flower, Wool Flower but I'll be using brain flower more because I can't associate it with anything else because it looks like a brain. The brain flower is a very interesting and unusual flower shape resembling folds of the brain. The blossom is large and found singly at the end of a heavy stalk. The celosia name is from the Greek word keleos for burning, referring to the bright red blossoms. Celosia is related to Amaranthus (even though I said I'll be calling it brain flower I had to show where the other name came from). -------------------------------------------------- Now for the meanings What it normally means Boldness, Uniqueness, Standing Out, Immortality, Unfading Love, Distinction. The brain flower's unusual and bold flower forms make it a symbol of uniqueness and the courage to stand out from the crowd. In some cultures, its long-lasting blooms represent immortality and unfading love. The brain flower variety's resemblance to a rooster's crest has made it a symbol of pride and distinction.
Now for the colors. Red: Boldness, strength, and unfading love. Because of its fiery, dramatic appearance, it has several specific meanings in the language of flowers. It could also be for good fortune. Orange: Creative energy, enthusiasm and energy, and warmth & Joy. It is the perfect flower to give to someone to celebrate their originality or to ignite inspiration and enthusiasm. Yellow: joyful friendship, bold individuality, and enduring positivity. Purple: Boldness, uniqueness, intelligence and wisdom. Pink: Enduring and joyful affection. Magenta: Lasting affection, an irresistible kind of love, and the courage to display deep emotion. Celosia doesn’t naturally grow in this form. The wrinkled state is due to selective breeding for a natural mutation affecting growth tips, called “fasciation.” It can be observed in many plants, including common garden plants like daisies and dandelions, and affects shoot and root tips.
It’s also called “cresting” in horticultural circles (like crested Echeveria, for example). Coxcomb is just an extreme example where the crested form has overshadowed its natural state. In fact, at times Celosia can revert to its unfasciated form, where it looks much more mundane.
